分布式数字身份的优点主要表现在以下三个方面:
1.安全性
这也是分布式数字身份最主要的优点。由于用户的数字身份标识经过脱敏设置，因此可以最大限度地避免用户的数据信息被泄露。在用户许可的情况下，其身份信息的提供坚持最小披露原则，且不会被无意泄露。此外，用户可以长久保存相关的身份信息。而这也就使得用户可以自己完全管理和控制实体的现实身份和可验证数字凭证等个人信息，未经过授权的机构无法获得与用户有关的实体信息。
2.身份自主可控
由于分散式标识符将用户的主体身份与数字身份紧密关联起来，并且只有经过用户的授权才能够合理使用，因此，用户的身份是自主可控的，不依赖于任何第三方进行身份信息管理。
3.分布式
在分布式数字身份系统中，用户身份信息管理是去中心化的，因此也可以避免被随意地泄露和篡改。基于这样的数字身份系统，个体在互联网空间中交流的基础是自己的身份数据，而不需要依赖于特定的第三方平台。而从平台的维度来看，分布式数字身份也更有利于平台之间的平等合作，共同为用户提供服务。
